What is a dream?
In Homeopathic practice, dreams are internal mental stories which express the sensations which a person has strong attachment or aversion towards. Further, that because these sensation polarities are not in accordance with the agreed upon societal modes of behaving, they can't be acted upon in the waking world and thus our vital force produces dreams to give outlet to those impulses to preserve health as much a possible.
For example: If a person has attachment to destructive sensations, like pounding, stabbing, exploding, burning, his vital force produces dreams of fighting and war. In waking life he will tend toward crime gangs, military occupation or like to watch these things on T.V. If he can act out in life, his physical health remains relatively unaffected, but if he can't, he must suppress and deny these sensation which effect his health. Then the vital force give release through dreams to preserve health.
Another example: If a person has sensations of failing in structure like falling, collapsing, crumbling, shattering, melting, he vital force produces dreams of falling, being unable to stand in a crisis, being weak in the face of attack, being naked in public, being incapable of keeping up with work or school, or being left behind. In life he struggles to be capable and successful in face of societal expectation and develops pathology which cause failure in structure.
How to use dreams in Homeopathic healing:
Classical Homeopaths usually question a patient about their dreams, how they feel in the dream and what kinds of body sensations they get while describing it. This information is often critical in solving a case because almost all of our remedies produce the kinds of sensations and imagery experienced in the dreams. Every single substance has it's unique quality to produce sensations and imagery when tested on healthy people and thus we get our materia medica. Through this we get deep insight into the workings of nature and how it is directly connected to human suffering. We get to, as Hahnemann put it, "to see what is sick in the patient and what is curative in the medicine". When we give the patient the Homeopathic medicine which mirrors his own sensations and dreams, his vital force and mind can't hold on to his original problem and must shift attention to the Homeopathic Medicine which runs it's limited course leaving the vital force free of it's original problem. The two mirroring issues have cancelled each other out leaving the life to flow freely and unobstructed thus allowing restoration of health to the whole being.
